I spent the entire day running Christmas-related errands. Shopping for presents is really starting to stress me out. I still have my own family PLUS my boyfriend’s family to cover! Do you have any ideas what to get two moms, two dads, an older brother, a 15-year-old girl, and two shih-tzus? If so, please let me know. I’m pulling my hair out trying to figure this out.

Luckily, I got the hardest gift out of the way when I picked up my package from Tres Bien: a pair of sneakers my boyfriend Justin wanted way before they sold out the first time around. I missed the door delivery time, so I had to have him drive me to the FedEx headquarters to get it. Obviously, he was jumping up and down with excitement that the package we were picking up was for him – and even more obviously, I gave in and let him try them on. They looked great with his outfit so I attempted to take ~style blog~ photos of him. Here’s what happened.

Oh! And just in case you’re appalled that I would ruin my boyfriend’s gift surprise, rest assured that I took them away from him to wrap up and have him re-open and act fake-surprised in front of our families on Christmas day. I am the best.

Topman Competition

Saturday, December 8th, 2012

This past semester, the retail management students at Ryerson had a course that revolved entirely around planning a collection for Topshop/Topman’s new Canadian market. Though they had the branding, marketing, budget, and other business-y stuff down pat, each group needed a designer – i.e. any fashion student at Ryerson – to create the actual line and tie everything with their aesthetic. Somehow my friend Daria managed to convince me to join her group despite my drowning in workload.

It turned out to be a really rewarding and fun experience, plus I was compensated ($$$) for all of my hard work! Each group presented to a panel of Topshop/Topman Canada judges in hopes to win a grand prize of a round trip to London, England, and for the designers, a chance to work with the designers of Topshop/Topman.

Here are a few of the final illustrations I submitted with my team, showcasing the ten-piece collection in all its military-inspired glory. Our theme was based around General James Wolfe, a British army officer known for his victory over the French in Canada – one that ties the British retailer with the new Canadian market. Take note of the super fun quilted skinny jeans and metallic bronze detailing!

My friend Sherry even went as far as helping me film the following video for our presentation. It features my unrealistically attractive boyfriend walking around and spinning romantically with me. Watch it if you feel like wasting 47 seconds of your life.

Unfortunately, we don’t find out who won for a couple more months, but I’ll let you know as soon as I know! Wish me luck, and please check out my portfolio if you like my work :)
